FIRST SKINCARE REVIEW OF THE YEAR: WELCOME 2024!

Wednesday, January 3, 2024

Last year was really amazing, so many Good things happened, being one of them, the opportunity to try a few interesting skincare and makeup products, so Let’s start!

FACE.

BEAUSTA Cica recipe face foam cleanser, & GARNIER ACTIVE micellar water for sensitive eyes and skin.

Having sensitive combination to oily skin type, every step matters to avoid any side effects. This is why Cica and Cornflower water, are two perfect main ingredients to calm, and refresh my skin. Used to use richer formulas, like the ones by The Saem, this one, feels incomplete, even if technically have some nice ingredients, and a soft formula.

On the other side, the micellar water for sensitive eyes and skin, to me is one of the best ones from Garnier. It easily remove all the impurities and makeup, even the waterproof ones, without dehydrating my skin, or causing any side effects.

FRUDIA enzymatic peeling gel, & HOLIKA-HOLIKA Soda Pore Cleansing.

Even if one of my favorites face scrub are from a western brand, the korean ones, are complete different, with a more advanced formulas, that are even suitable for sensitive skin, braking once againg with the topic that face scrubs can't be used on sensitive skin. The enzymatic peeling gel by Frudia, removes softly in one step all the dead skin cells, with the drawback of not being able to be used twice at the same moment, therefore everything need to be done in one step, thoroughly massaging the entire face.

By the way, the one by Holika-Holika, really surprised me for its main ingredient (baking soda), and the product formula. It gentle removes all the impurities, being able to be used again at the same time, in high contrast with the one by Frudia. The texture feels like microbubbles penetrating deep into the pores, removing all the dirtiness, leaving the skin soft and velvety.

TONY MOLY  Wonder Tea Tree Pore Fresh Toner.

Since the green panda face moisturizer, indicated for combination to oily skin (one of my all time favorite moisturizers), this face toner is the second product I try from this brand.

Formulated with ingredients that are specially indicated for combination to oily skin, like Tea tree and green tea, that contributes to even the skin tone, sebum regulation, helping at the same time to reduce pimples, making it suitable for people with acne prone skin.

The main purpose of this face toner is to refresh, balance, and purify the skin, penetrating deep into the pores, leaving the skin prepared for the next step. However, to me, is not one of the best face toners in the market, but a really good one, to keep as a vanity backgroung, since it really helps to regulate progressively the sebum production, softening the skin texture the same time.

EYES.

VITAMIN TREE & ORJENA eye moisturizers.

After having watched so many skincare videos, and read a few blog post about how important can be to use an specific moisturizer to the skin of the eye area, for being a more sensitive zone, that needs a more lightweight, and fast absorbing moisturizer, that helps to to prevent, and treat fine lines and wrinklesI ended up trying this two ones, to start including them in my routine.

Both of them are from Korean skincare brands, being Orjena one of my favorites low cost Korean beauty brands, for their face serums, sheet mask, and enzymatic peeling gel.

The one from The Vitamin Tree, whose main ingredient is Niacinamide, was definitely a game changer: it decongest, moisturize, softens, and refresh the skin of the eye area, leaving a slight sensation of freshness. On the other side, the Orjena eye cream, which have more main ingredients like hydrolyzed collagen, niacinamide, and marine algae, it felt more like a basic lightweight moisturizer.

FULL FACE MAKEUP OF NEW AVON COSMETICS PRODUCTS.

Thursday, July 7, 2022

It has been a while since I wanted to write a Review about Avon Cosmetics makeup products, and finally the day has come, and since in Europe we are in summer, with a lot of heat, I wanted to keep it fresh, bronzing, and easy, with a lot of long-lasting and waterproof options.

EYELINERS.

Along with lipsticks, my favorite Avon Cosmetics products are their long-lasting eyeliners. They are highly pigmented, easy to use, and waterproof. I love to use them alone, or with eyeshadow.

POWDER BRONZER.

Usually, this shade is more indicated for medium skin tones, but this time, to me is suitable for medium-dark skin tones, leaving a beautiful mesmerizing golden finish on the skin, being the perfect complement for any contour makeup.

STICK CONCEALER.

This was my sweet and sour product…why? Because on one side I love the way it applies to the skin (very smooth), the texture, how buildable can be, and the fact that it can be used for quick touch-ups, turns it into the perfect carry-on makeup product to save the day. But, on the other side, it needs to be applied on a well-prepared skin (skincare + primer), and setting it with a fine face powder, to avoid the accumulation of product on expression lines (that all human beings have). By the way, is not long-lasting at all, and is not waterproof or water-resistant.

LIPSTICK.

They are one of my favorite makeup products from Avon Cosmetics, for being rich, with a wide color range, highly pigmented, easy to use, and long-lasting.

Furthermore, the two-in-one lip and cheeks product, from the Color Trend line, is perfect for a fresh and effortless makeup look. Not too pigmented, but neither too sheer, with a slight melons melon scent, and a long-lasting finish.

Enjoying spring/summer 2022 with Very Vegan Garden Party by W7 Makeup (Review).

Friday, July 1, 2022

Here in Spain, after a beautiful spring, hot summer just arrived, and with it, a lot of new beauty products, like new makeup collections, and skincare lines. When I think about these two seasons, my mind is very clear: long-lasting fresh makeup, with floral tones.

This time, I ended up buying one of the new W7 makeup line: Very Vegan Garden Party. For those people who don’t know the brand, W7 makeup, is a very famous low-cost British makeup brand, like Revolution Beauty, with a lot of high-quality makeup products, being my favorites until the moment their eyeshadows palettes, and face powders, like the Banana Dreams (a classic one in my makeup collection).

This collection has one liquid lipstick, one eyeshadow palette, and one face palette, but I decided to try only the makeup palettes! And the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this makeup collection was a beautiful-enchanted garden hidden in the forest, full of flowers, where I can get lost.

What really caught my attention was the color range selection, as well as the texture of the products, and finishes: red, wines, cherries, champagnes, bronzers, and soft pinks; with metallics, satins, glitters, and mattes finish.

EYESHADOW PALETTE.

Beautiful colors, rich textures, and different finishes: matte, glitter, and satins. The combination of colors and finishes blends perfectly, without having the necessity to look for another eyeshadow color in any other palettes of my collection.

FACE PALETTE.

At first, I was a little bit scared, because some shades had a lot of shimmers, however, the finish on the skin of each product ended up really beautiful. However, in relation to the application of the products, it is advisable to go from less to more, modulating the desired level of intensity, due to its level of pigmentation.

In general, I think that this makeup collection is gorgeous, and perfect for a limitless use for this spring/summer, being ideal for day or evening makeup looks, but as I always said: the rules in makeup are made to be broken.

My personal experience going natural: 4C 100% natural afro hair.

Wednesday, June 15, 2022

It has been two years since I decided to shave all my hair, and things have changed a lot from that day. So, why not share all the experiences in my beauty blog, with the purpose to help people that are struggling with hair transitioning or feel insecure about their natural curls. But being honest, the temptation to relax my hair at some point was always around.

FIRST.

From my youngest days, my mom and I, always use to gravitate between natural and relaxed hair, ending at least going more on the relaxed hair side. We never ever had any issues with our hair routines and general rules like:

  • Relaxing the hair every two or three months, using moisturizing, repairing, and nutritious hair products, along with avoiding the excess use of flat irons and hair driers
  • Know which products will work for our hair, and control carefully the use of hair dyes (avoid dyeing the hair until one or two weeks after the relaxing process).

BUT THEN…WHY THE BIG CHOP?

Even if it wasn’t the first time I had a radical haircut, this time was different. I ended up cutting off my entire hair...shaving it, I never ever shaved my head: NEVER, but I guess that there is always a first time, and somehow it has been positive. I did it, and I have no regrets, even if at first, I didn’t like to watch myself in the mirror directly, frightening everybody at the same time for my radical decision, now everything is different.

If I think carefully about it, at that moment in my life I was dealing with a lot of things, and I needed a change (inside and outside), so I took the scissors and the razor, and I decided to shave my entire head. (Please do not imitate me, if you want to change your hairstyle, think calmly about it, and if that is your wish, go to the hairdresser).

The first thing I noticed was my hairless scalp, which was and is more sensitive than the skin on my face, making me realize something very important: Have I really been taking care of my hair correctly? I never had problems when my mother took care of my hair when I was little, on the contrary, I use to have it up to the middle of my back in abundance. However, I felt that already in my adulthood, things were no longer the same.

My mother has natural afro hair that is very soft and easy to manage, which also does not require much nutrition and hydration. However, my hair is thick, frizzy, and wild (like my dad’s hair), to the point it has set off countless combs specially designed for afro hair. Becoming at the same time another reason for my mother to periodically straighten my hair, making it easy for her to control and treat my hair successfully (and I don’t have any regrets, since she did a very nice job taking care of my hair, in her own way, without any cracks, burns, or weakness).

As I grew older my body and hair were changing too, needing different treatments and routines that are away from my mother’s beauty rituals. Therefore, my mother’s multivitamin shampoo no longer worked for my hair, so I needed to start looking for my own products.

Having had a straightened hair most of my life, I only knew that I needed products that would prevent breakage, helping me strengthen my hair. This is why ended up choosing any type of hair repairing products lines, without looking at the ingredient list, or consulting various types of opinions on the internet (particularly from the afro/curly hair community)…..BAD, VERY BAD, to the point I ended up learning by trial and error, to understand how to properly take care of my straightened hair.

What does this mean? Whichever path you choose, you will have to know how to care for and maintain your hair. Straightened hair also requires a lot of care, and to avoid making big mistakes, luckily there exists a large and very active black community that talks about it, sharing information and personal experiences about this topic, like: Jennifer Cynthia, StyleDomination, Hairlicious Inc, Cassandra Olivia, Dawan Pearson, Ju Poppin, or JohnGeorge.

GOING NATURAL FROM ZERO!

Once shaved, there is no way to go back anymore, so I just let everything flow, without thinking much about my hair, leaving it free, letting it grow strong, full, and natural. Being at the same time, the perfect stage to learn the general rules of Afro hair care, immersing myself in a different world, and one of the things that I can confirm is that transitioning to natural Afro hair, can be difficult and uncomfortable at first, however, that feeling is reduced when you start educating yourself about your hair type reading blogs, watching videos, and following accounts on social network mainly related to the care of afro and curly hair, such as: Efik Zara, The Gloved Natural, Star Puppy, Leila Washington-Fusion of Cultures, Afrocenchix, My Natural Hair Blog, Frolicious, or Afro Lovely.

The first thing I learned was the importance of protecting my hair, and the importance of it, especially at night, before going to sleep, to avoid knots the next day. Along with that, the importance of product formulas and ingredients, discovering that my afro hair needs and loves 100% pure natural oils, rich in fatty acids, like castor oil, argan oil, vitamin E oil, concentrated olive oil, or avocado oil. By the way, I learned too how to use 100% pure coconut oil, as well as its real benefits.

But the most shocking part was the importance and comfort of hair protective styles, and how to enjoy different types of hairstyles and colors without damaging my hair: no cut, no excess of heat from hair driers and hair irons, no bleach or dye, just wigs & extensions (properly used). So, every two weeks or every month, I can freely change my hairstyle without any danger.

FINAL CONCLUSION.

I actually embrace and love my 4C natural hair, even if sometimes I feel like straightening my hair (jokes! The bottle of hair relaxer has been proudly in my closet for months/years, without arousing any desire to use it).

My only current wish is for my hair to grow long, strong, and beautiful, once again reaching the middle of my back, even more….full of health and vitality… forever.
