Skincare update: what I have been using in September. Back from holidays!

Monday, September 30, 2024

Once again, we are at that time of the year, when holidays end, and it’s time to start all over with the routine, be productive, and active, and adjust our pockets to our “new” reality. And what better than to start with clean and conditioned skin?...And hair free of impurities and soft? Get ready to smell like a goddess, and feel smooth like a goddess.

BODY.

Skin is the largest organ of our body, and with it, the one that suffers the most from external aggressions, and in some cases, the one we take the least care of. We simply decide to use any type of cleanser and moisturizer on it, without realizing if we are using the right product.

By having sensitive skin, the last thing I want after vacation is to have to go back to the routine with tight, and itchy skin after a shower, and even if I still haven't been able to find a perfect dupe for my favorite shower gel (Lactacyd shower gel), I have decided to find more affordable alternatives that effectively cleanse the skin, without leaving it dry, tight, and itchy

  • Micellar gel shower, by BYPHASSE.

For months I had been trying different products from this brand, which had left me pleasantly surprised, therefore decided to leap to the rest of their range of products, mainly shower gels, starting with the range of micellar shower gels, which aim to gently capture impurities on the skin without drying it out.

Both correctly fulfill the promised function, but my favorite was the monoí shower gel, for leaving the skin softer, conditioned, and with the characteristic smell of the star ingredient: monoí oil

  • Body wash, by SOAP AND GLORY.

Soap and Glory has become one of my favorite beauty brands. Their range of products indicated for the body has never disappointed me so far, however, some products work better on one type of skin than others, such as these two shower gels. Both smell great, have a good texture, are highly concentrated making 500ml last the same as 1000ml, and emulsify into a rich foam that covers the entire body.

However, the Smoothie Star shower gel has a denser and richer texture, with an enveloping vanilla aroma, which leaves the skin clean, soft, conditioned, and perfumed; in contrast, Call of Fruity leaves the skin slightly tight.

HAIR.

Just as we cannot use just any product on our skin, the same thing happens with our hair, especially after a crazy vacation. Depending on the type of hair, preferences are different, since untreated, virgin hair will not have the same needs as hair that has already undergone various chemical treatments, such as bleaching, straightening, or dyeing.

  • Nutritive and repairing reset shampoo, by BABARIA.

This shampoo is one of the best hair products that Babaria has created. It leaves hair soft, highly malleable, shiny, and smelling deliciously like a sweet orange smoothie.

  • Aloe Vera and Shea Butter hair mask, by SECRET CODE.

The perfect complement to the previous shampoo is this hair mask enriched with Aloe vera and shea butter, which leaves hair extra soft and silky, with a very appetizing smell. Besides that, and in my personal experience, compared to other hair masks I have used, it is not necessary to use a lot of product to cover all the hair and see results.

  • Kukuí oil shampoo, by OGX; and Keratin hair conditioner, by SYOSS.

If your hair is going through a very bad time, due to aggressive treatment, bleaching, or simply has just undergone an intense chemical process, this is one of the combos that has surprised me the most. To me, it has become one of the star combinations to use right after having a straightening treatment, since it leaves the hair clean, soft, and shiny, and progressively strengthens it. Definitely another masterful combination

  • Baobab nourishing oil, by PRÉPHAR; Sleek and Shine 10 in-1 hair leave-in cream, by GARNIER; Ronquina enriched with rosemary extract hair toner, by CRUSELLAS.

The perfect triad to keep the hair nourished, soft, malleable, frizz-free, and smelling good. Right after lightly drying the hair, using a good hair tonic helps re-balance the scalp, preparing it for the next product to be applied. Yes, just like the skin, the scalp needs a good tonic that works as a first step and penetrates the scalp. My favorite is the one by Crusellas, which is enriched with rosemary extract, whose main ingredient is ronquina, a tree known for its balancing properties, which contribute to hair regeneration, preventing hair loss and breakage, with various antiseptic, antibiotic, and healing properties.

Secondly, leave-in conditioner, in this case, my favorite so far has been Garnier's 10 in 1, it does what it promises, and contributes to the nutrition and strengthening of the hair fiber (straightened hair and 4C afro hair).

Finally, the final dressing is hair oil. Normally I alternate this last step with, occasionally, hair grease, my preference is always based on the best and greatest combination of natural ingredients. Baobab's oil is known for its softening properties.

KALLOS COSMETICS, KALLOS HAIRCARE LINE: FINAL ROUND!

Thursday, June 6, 2024

Finally, I have finished testing a large part of the Kallos Cosmetis hair line, and I come to contribute my opinion based on knowledge.

Kallos Cosmetics is a Hungarian cosmetics brand, created in 1978 in Budapest, specializing in cosmetic products, ranging from body and hair care, to makeup, with a very competitive prices (low-cost). As can be seen in the blog archive, this is not the first time I have tried their products, since their prices and concept are highly tempting.

Simple formulas, based on active ingredients known for their effectiviness in the cosmetics market such as aloe vera, marine algae, hemp, etc., each one promising different results. Considering that when I was using these products, my hair was not straightened (Hair relaxer), completely natural (4C afro hair), this is my experience.

  • Hair Shampoo.

Although Kallos Cosmetics does not have the best low-cost shampoos on the market, it cannot be denied that it has some hidden gems, such as the Pro-tox shampoo.

ALOE VERA.

Focused on optimal cleansing of the scalp, it leaves hair free of residue, but tight, making the use of a softening hair mask mandatory, and not optional. While it is true that there are shampoos that allow you to comb the hair in the second application, to detangle it before rinsing, this product makes such a step practically impossible.

CHERRY.

It softens hair, making it easy to comb, while eliminating any residue existing in it, but it continues to leave the hair a little dry after rinsing.

  • Hair mask.

Hair masks are sacred for afro hair, especially if it is type 4C, so, after having fallen in love with the Pro-Tox Cannabis hair mask Pro-Tox Cannabis hair mask, whose main ingredient is hemp, famous for leaving hair soft, and easy to style, my curiosity to discover another hidden gems, started to increase.

PRO-TOX.

Its main ingredients are keratin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid, which are famous for hydrating, repairing, and softening hair from inside. However, in my case, I ended up obtaining a fluffier and more malleable hair, full of life.

VEGAN SOUL.

I like the concept, the ingredients, but not the formula. Reading the ingredient list, one of the first things to identify, is how the majority of ingredients are from natural origin, allowing the brand to create a product that is practically free of synthetic ingredients, or those considered harmful.

However, although it is true that it has a set of beneficial ingredients, its formula fails for 4C afro hair, making it difficult to comb it, and technically not providing any type of benefit.

CHERRY.

Like the shampoo belonging to the same line, it smells incredibly good, and softens the hair.

ALOE VERA.

One of the best Kallos Cosmetics mask, along with the Cannabis Hair-Protox mask, since both leave the hair extremely soft, silky, and malleable for a long time (up to a week, especially with the Aloe Vera mask). Both are perfect for 4C afro hair, and have become my favorites.

A lovely second opportunity with Kallos Cosmetics.

Monday, November 8, 2021

Since my horror history using the Sea Instant Hair Conditioner by Kallos Cosmetics, I never minded that I will ever buy their hair products again, but guess what? I did it! I decided to give their products a new opportunity with my hair, maybe because in Spain some famous beauty bloggers can’t stop using products from this brand, claiming that they are amazing… so for the price, why not?

This time I decided to take my time, and carefully read the ingredient list, and two products just caught my interest: the hair Pro-Tox shampoo, and the Omega hair mask. The firsts things that surprised me was the price, the size, and the ingredient list! In contrast with other products from the same brand, they were the best option.

The price of the shampoo was 2.95E (1 liter), and the main ingredients are: keratin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid. By the way the hair mask price was 2.50E (1 liter), and the main ingredients are: Omega 6 complex and macadamia oil. For the price and my last experience with the brand, I didn’t expect much, but they ended leaving my hair soft and fluffy, without any breakage, respecting my curls and hair texture… so I don´t have nothing wrong to say about them (maybe the smell, but that is personal).

Even with those prices, they have better quality than many drugstore products (including white brands), not leaving my hair greasy or matted, and looking at the ingredient list with calm, I noticed that they did it very well with the ingredients and the formula: easy formula with ingredients that works.

Shampoo key ingredients.

  • Keratin (hydrolyzed): reduce frizz and breakage, increase smoothness and elasticity, repairs and protect the hair.
  • Collagen (soluble): provides amino acids that build hair, fight hair damage from the follicles, prevent hair thinning, and slow hair graying.
  • Hyaluronic acid (Sodium hyaluronate): moisturizer, promotes collagen production, prevent hair breakage, stimulate hair growth, exfoliate dry scalp promoting softness, and strengthen weak strands.
  • Panthenol (Vitamin B5): improves hair texture, strengthen hair, and retain moisture.
  • Cocos nucifera oil: it moisturizes and seal hair, preventing dry-flaky scalp, dandruff, and hair breakage.
  • Olea Europaea oil: it conditions and promotes hair growth.
  • Coco Glucoside: it retains hair moisture to maintain a healthy scalp, preventing dry and itchy scalp (dandruff). On the other hand, it has hair softener properties.
  • Glycerin: eliminates scalp itchiness, deep conditioner, eliminates dandruff, and prevents split ends.
  • Propylene glycol: helps retain moisture (highly effective humectant).

Mask key ingredients.

  • Macadamia Ternifolia seed oil: rich in fatty acids and vitamins (strong antioxidant), it protects and rejuvenates hair, promoting hair strength and growth.
  • Borago Officinalis seed oil: rich in Omega 6 it fights dry hair, promotes blood circulation, and trat scalp irritations.
  • Cyclopentaciloxane: detangle, reduce hair frizz, and prevent breakage.
  • Propylene glycol: moisture retainer (highly effective humectant).
